Qualcomm and iSonea develop wireless asthma monitor

Qualcomm Life and iSonea has announced the development of a new wireless monitor to be used by asthma patients.

The Maryland-based company, which specialises in the production of asthma systems, has announced it has teamed up with Qualcomm to use the 2Net platform within its Acoustic Respiratory Monitoring systems and new mobile health asthma management device.

As part of the new deal, it will allow the information recorded by the systems to be transported automatically and securely via the cloud-based network to physicians to assess.

"With our smartphone platform and Qualcomm's end-to-end wireless systems expertise, we will provide asthma patients with the ability to monitor and report breathing distress symptoms triggered by environmental factors," said Michael J Thomas, chief executive officer of iSonea Limited.

Qualcomm Life's network is used in a number of devices and earlier this year it was announced the system would be utilised in conjunction with the Mobile Health Portal from Zephyr Technology.
