Gerard Smith

Gerard joined Plextek as a software engineer in 1995. He initially worked on embedded software projects for car security and cordless telephony. Since then his work has taken in a variety of product development and project management roles on tracking systems and consumer products running multi-disciplinary teams for overseas customers. He led the project team that set-up Plextek's design and supply activities by developing and putting into production a range of stolen vehicle recovery products. Over 4 million of these products have now been manufactured.
Gerard now runs the Software Systems group at Plextek which focuses on developing products based on a range of operating systems including Windows Embedded, Linux and Android. This has resulted in the successful development of products including in-car infotainment systems and a multimedia training and education tablet.
Prior to joining Plextek Gerard worked of GEC-Marconi Research developing signal processing software for Radar and HF communications systems. Gerard graduated from the University of Surrey with a 2:1 honours degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
