Short Range Wireless System Design

Plextek helps clients integrate a range of short range connectivity devices into small form-factor devices such as smart phones whilst avoiding cross interference and electrical issues.  We have expertise in integrating application profiles, service discovery protocols and other user facing features.

Silicon ICs designed by Plextek for short range wireless applications have now shipped several hundred million units.  We have also helped manufacturers develop innovative products in areas as diverse as wireless keyboards, headsets, remote control units, data-cards and scientific devices.

Plextek has developed reference designs for silicon manufacturers and we provide a route for these companies to lower costs by outsourcing client support.  We minimise the time clients spend integrating new products by detailed attention to issues such as optimising board layout, mechanical design and antenna placement.

Example Projects

• Plextek were asked to lower the cost of integrating Bluetooth into a fabric based roll-up keyboard by a company who wished to replace their existing solution. The resultant design substantially reduced the retail price for the product making it better placed in a very competitive market. Over 250,000 keyboard units have been manufactured to date.
• An innovative company approached Plextek for assistance in developing one of the first stereo Bluetooth headphones. Due to our extensive expertise with this wireless system, we were able to design the product rapidly enabling the client to target the early adopter market.
