Automotive Technology Design
Plextek has developed a wide range of successful automotive products, from one of the earliest telemetry systems for Formula 1 racing to multi-media head units which provide in-car entertainment for luxury vehicles. This expertise has enabled us to develop reliable processes for developing products that meet the highest automotive quality standards.
In addition to designing units for clients we also supply products using our strong relationships with contract manufacturers. We currently manufacture approximately one million electronic units for the automotive market each year.
Plextek has a long history in the fleet management and tracking markets. We have an exclusive relationship with Redtail Telematics for the supply of technology for mobile asset management and services.
Example Projects
- Plextek helped an Asian manufacturer to develop a high-end multi-media head unit with wireless connectivity for both factory and after-sale fitting. The product was developed to be highly reliable while achieve a low bill of materials cost. The unit was designed for mass production with a rapid production ramp-up and enabled the client to expand into new higher value markets than they were able to address previously.
- Plextek has manufactured over 5 million vehicle tracking units for LoJack Inc. The devices have been sold in over 30 countries and continue to be the leading product in this market segment.
