Radar
Plextek provides radar design services to product manufacturers. These services include radar sub-system design, radar test system development, system integration and complete radar product development.
Radar Design
Plextek engineers have worked on some of the world's leading radar designs for some of the largest defence contractors and have experience in land, sea and airborne systems. This expertise is available to manufacturers who need specialised skills in the areas of RF design, signal processing and full system architecture definition.
Our expertise covers power amplifier design based on discrete components as well as full custom IC development. Plextek provides solid state high frequency design skills and has licensable intellectual property for advanced synthesisers.
Expertise in the signal processing domain includes statistical analysis, algorithm optimisation, FPGA design, DSP software and simulation development. Plextek also helps companies establish unified test capabilities covering development through to manufacturing and maintenance.
Example Projects
- A European client utilised Plextek's expertise in solid state radar design by out-sourcing the development of a solid state pulse X-band marine radar transceiver. The system consists of a flexible digital waveform generator, fast switching low noise synthesiser, up and down converters, LNA, and high power solid state power amplifier modules. The final design is extremely versatile and will significantly lower the cost and effort required to develop follow-on products.
- Plextek developed a high performance signal processing unit for a client giving them a flexible platform that can be used across a range of radar products. The programme was up and running very quickly and Plextek were able to deliver production parts to the client within 8 months. The platform is able to achieve sustained I/O rate of 30Gbps and is based on a Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA.
