Plextek enables clients to develop products that utilise machine to machine communications and remote monitoring.  We have developed our own long range telemetry system as well as provide support for standards based systems.

M2M and Telemetry Technology Design

Plextek has developed a wide range of systems that provide data telemetry and remote monitoring.  We were one of the first companies to develop mesh network systems for communications and sensors.

Plextek participates in a range of standards activities which enables clients to select and implement the most appropriate systems. Our expertise covers both wide area connectivity, using new  longer range technology such as 802.15.4g, and short range links such as Zigbee.

Our "Ultra Narrow Band " system provides data communications over much longer ranges than existing standards based solutions and supports up to 10,000 nodes per base station.  This technology provides significant cost savings compared to other approaches.

Example Projects

  • Plextek's Ultra Narrow Band technology forms the basis of the Telensa PLANET street lighting control system. Plextek designed both the base-stations and street light control modules for the system. The technology takes advantage of some advanced signal processing techniques which shift complexity from the control module to the base-stations in order to significantly lower unit costs.
  • Plextek designed a telemetry system for the world's leading manufacturer of sono-buoys. We were able to cut the cost of the product significantly by using commercial off the shelf components. The challenging specification, which included very high physical shock requirements, placed significant constraints on the design team but the final product was delivered on time and budget.
