Manufacturing Specialist

About the position

Would you like to work on novel healthcare solutions, smart city technology, advanced robotic systems or sensors for autonomous drones? These are all recent projects at Plextek, and we need the brightest minds joining our diverse teams to deliver them.  Almost all our manufacturing is sub-contracted so you would be crucial in the delivery of prototypes to support projects with very tight deadlines as well as large design and supply contracts for a variety of clients.

Our work is largely driven by technical development and innovation. One of the great advantages of working here is that no two projects are the same. If you are an enthusiastic, adaptable and motivated person who thrives on variety, enjoys learning new skills and facing exciting challenges then this is the place to be.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a manufacturing specialist responsible for the delivery of hardware designed by our electronic, mechanical and PCB designers. You will select suppliers, obtain quotations, place orders and resolve any manufacturing issues, ensuring successful project completion. As a leader of a small manufacturing team, you will be the focus for this activity at Plextek, particularly for PCBA and product assembly.

When appropriate you will use your knowledge of design for manufacturing supply chain principles to advise team members on a day-to-day basis or at formal design reviews.

A key responsibility will be to provide estimates for the hardware and assembly required to complete client proposals, often based on novel hardware solutions.  You will be expected to develop your own approach to this activity along with business leads and project managers.

The opportunity is likely to be of interest to someone in a more traditional Manufacturing Engineering role looking to widen their experience and thrive on more direct involvement with clients.

Useful skills would include project management, identification of new suppliers, new manufacturing methods and the flexibility to adapt experience and knowledge to areas outside your normal field of expertise.

Other related knowledge areas which would be of interest include awareness of product quality,  regulatory requirements, environmental legislation, sustainable design, and product reliability.

THE REWARDS

In return we offer a competitive package and a stimulating environment that will encourage you to be your best. We provide all the training, professional development, and support that you need to complete your projects. We are a versatile business and are able to support career progression in many dimensions including technical, commercial and managerial.
