Lead Product Design Consultant

Would you like to work on novel healthcare solutions, smart city technology, advanced robotic systems or sensors for autonomous drones? What about mobile ad-hoc radio networks or airfield radar? How do you fancy underwater or aircraft-based sensor and communications systems? These are all current projects at Plextek and we need the brightest minds joining our diverse teams to deliver them.

Our work is largely driven by technical development and innovation. One of the great advantages of working here is that no two projects are the same. If you are an enthusiastic, adaptable and motivated person who thrives on variety enjoys learning new skills and facing exciting challenges then this is the place to be.

THE ROLE

We are looking for someone to take a leading role within our team of experienced product designers. This is an opportunity for someone to develop their customer-facing skills and, in time, to take full responsibility for other members of the team. The team are responsible for all aspects of product design, from capturing product requirements and generating design concepts all the way through to detailed mechanical design and PCB Layout. This is a new role in which you will be leading from the front, combining hands-on mechanical or product design activity with providing technical guidance and direction to the rest of the team. Supplying vision and technical commentary to the market is an important aspect of this role and will provide an opportunity to shape the type of work the team undertakes.

Projects are highly technical and so you will need a good technical degree or an equivalent qualification, and typically have a background in designing complex products for demanding markets, and taking them to production. An appreciation of other skills areas, such as electronics and software would be desirable.

Business development activities will feature significantly, so experience in writing articles, papers, proposals and giving presentations would be very relevant. You should have a genuine enthusiasm for technology.

THE REWARDS

In return, we offer a competitive package and a stimulating environment that will encourage you to be your best. We provide all the training, professional development and support that you need to complete your tasks. We are a versatile business and are able to support career progression in many dimensions including technical, commercial and managerial.
