Senior Mechatronic Design Engineer

Would you like to work on novel healthcare solutions, smart city technology, advanced robotic systems or sensors for autonomous drones? What about mobile ad-hoc radio networks or airfield radar? How do you fancy underwater or aircraft-based sensor and communications systems? These are all current projects at Plextek and we need the brightest minds joining our diverse team to deliver them.

Our work is largely driven by technical development and innovation. One of the great advantages of working here is that no two projects are the same. If you are an enthusiastic, adaptable and motivated person with a background in engineering, who thrives on variety, enjoys learning new skills and facing exciting challenges then this is the place to be.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a design engineer who possesses the experience necessary to play the key role in developing our offering in mechatronics and related disciplines. Your recent experience could be in any industry, supported by recognised academic achievements.

This is a client facing role and you will be comfortable explaining complex technical matters to non-technical customers as well as sharing relevant professional insights and comments to a wide audience. You will actively seek project opportunities in technologies that both interest you and would benefit the team. Where opportunities arise, you will take a lead in writing client proposals, with costs, based around work packages you have defined with support from other specialists. On some projects you will be able to put your design experience into practice, while on others you will be providing guidance to members of the team.

This is an opportunity to use your technical leadership skills to follow exciting new ideas from first client contact through to reality. You will be the senior person in our design team consisting of PCB, mechanical and product designers, in addition to manufacturing specialists. There will be an opportunity for you to take management responsibility for this team in due course.

THE REWARDS

In return, we offer a competitive package and a stimulating environment that will encourage you to be your best. We provide all the training, professional development and support that you need to complete your projects. We are a versatile business and are able to support career progression in many dimensions including technical, commercial and managerial.
