Smart Cities Lead

THE ROLE

Plextek has a terrific pedigree delivering visionary IoT solutions to our customers. As the lead for the Smart Cities Market you will be responsible for growing Plextek’s business and creating cutting edge devices, networks and services for cities across the globe.

You will be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic advocate for technology, especially the IoT stack and the business models it supports. You will present at industry events and develop a network of contacts across the sector to grow your profile. Your primary objective will be business development, working to agreed revenue targets, identifying clients with requirements and marrying them to Plextek’s capabilities within a viable commercial framework.

But this is by no means a purely commercial role. To be successful you will need to identify potential clients, use your deep technical expertise to understand and articulate a solution to their unique challenge and collate the business case to enable all parties to engage. It will be your drive that sees projects come to fruition.

You will be backed up by a supportive management team, a highly collaborative workforce with fantastic technical skills, a long list of previous IoT projects and a capable marketing department. The role offers wide freedom to contribute to Plextek and the evolution of the world’s urban environments.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will a very strong grasp of the range of technology that Plextek works with on a regular basis. We anticipate you will need five to ten years’ experience in a relevant engineering design role to have achieved the required level of technical depth. You will need to have business development experience, or be able to demonstrate to us how you have the commercial and interpersonal skills to drive future business through matching our technical capability to client needs.

Experience in a technical field related to the IoT stack (wireless, cloud computing, data analytics etc.) is desirable, but an appetite for working across the technical and commercial domains will be prioritised over experience. Your capability to innovate whilst also keeping sight of the big picture will differentiate you from many purely technical or commercial candidates.

A collaborative and professional outlook will help you build relationships based on trust and delivery. You will be comfortable presenting in an engaging style to a range of audiences, leading meetings and will have excellent written communication skills.

You will be self-motivated, structuring your own schedule to prioritise activities that maximise your contribution. You will be a flexible learner who can rapidly understand new technical areas or develop domain knowledge in niche areas. You will be comfortable thinking strategically. You will derive your job satisfaction from helping to grow our business in this sector and seeing a job well done by the Plextek team.
