Electronics Manufacturing - Fully Tested Production Hardware

Electronics Manufacturing

Challenge
Plextek works with large defence contractors on complex hardware programmes. Often delays in designing a single module will delay the whole programme. For example if a module is not ready for environmental testing then the design of all related systems will also be delayed. Challenging requirements means that the appropriate technical expertise is not widely available, making delays hard to recover. Design effort is only part of the problem. Manufacturing, test and supply chain resource will be required from the start to allow the preferred Concurrent Engineering approach.

Our Approach
Plextek are able to quickly understand requirements and liaise with the design authority, project and quality assurance teams, becoming an extension of the contractors own design team. Plextek have specialist manufacturing, test and supply chain engineers that are involved from the start of any project. A manufacturing and test plan is generated to provide a framework for more detailed manufacturing related decisions essential for robust design and supply. Key suppliers will be selected and audited and materials purchased in line with any specific project requirements. Production test is critical to both product functionality and production capacity. Plextek can combine their design expertise with experience of both low and high volume factory test systems to implement a test solution that can be implemented at Plextek or the manufacturer. As Plextek are an independent company they can select the best partners to suit requirements, or work with the contractors existing suppliers if that is requested.

Outcome
Plextek can supply fully tested production hardware and manage on-going issues such as component obsolesce and changes to environmental legislation. As the contractors systems and requirements would have been considered by Plextek the design and associated supply chain can passed back to the full control of the contractor when requested, for example, post-delivery of low-rate initial production (LRIP).
