Coastal erosion is a problem across the planet, as human influences and natural changes in the environment lead to a shifting coastline. These changes can be catastrophic for homes, businesses and infrastructure located in at risk areas, and steps to monitor the tidal flow and sediment levels around affected rivers and coastlines are needed.

Plextek worked to provide a suitable radio infrastructure to facilitate a wide area sensor network with appropriate range, data transmission and sensor node battery life. Plextek work with a range of standard radio backhauls, such as cellular and LoRa, as well as developing custom protocols to manage efficient wide area deployments and select the most appropriate technology for each use case.
