About the position
This role is ideal for recent graduates with a passion for mechanical systems, product development and continuous improvement. You will work alongside experienced engineers to design, develop, and test mechanical systems across a variety of exciting projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems using CAD tools, primarily Creo and Solidworks.
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis to ensure design integrity and performance.
- Support prototype development, testing and validation of mechanical products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, manufacturing and quality engineering.
- Prepare technical documentation such as drawings, BOMs and specifications.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Assist in troubleshooting activities during production or field use.
- Stay current with relevant industry standards, materials and technologies.
- Be customer-facing and comfortable communicating engineering concepts.
Qualifications and Character
- An honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (completed or near completion) from a well-regarded university.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software.
- Hands-on experience within a workshop or assembly environment is advantageous especially working with electronics and RF systems.
- Happy to work within the Defence sector and be security cleared.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials and manufacturing.
- Proactive attitude with a strong teamwork mentality.
- Willingness to learn, take on new challenges and adaptable.
Preferred Skills (Not Mandatory)
- Familiarity with simulation tools such as FEA or CFD.
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Exposure to design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Basic programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation or analysis.
